Q. What is Text Messaging
A. It's like mini-email. Text messaging is a service that allows you to send messages of up to 160 characters from your digital mobile phone. The message is shown in the display window of your digital phone. SMS (Short Message Service) is another expression for text messaging.

Q. How Do I Send A Text Message
Every manufacturer implements text messaging on their handsets in a different way. For a definitive guide, you should consult your manufacturer's handbook or website. But in general;
1. Go to the 'Messages' part of your menu
2. Select 'Create New'...'Text message'
3. Type your Message or 'KEYWORD' on the message contents (you may need to press the same key multiple times to get the right letter)
4. Send the message to the advertised short code

Q. Can I Use My Mobile Phone To Text
Assuming your phone actually supports text messaging, the following wireless carriers are participating in this service:
- AT&T
- Verizon Wireless
- T-Mobile
- Sprint/Nextel
- Alltel
- Virgin Mobile
- US Cellular
This is not an exclusive list - you should check with your carrier to see if they support messaging to 'common short codes'.

Q. I want to opt out
To do so, either login to your account here and click the 'unsubscribe' link on the profile page. Or, simply reply STOP to any received message.

Q. Do I Have To Pay To Participate
This service is charged at your carrier's Standard Rates. This means that you are charged the usual fee for a text message as per your agreement with your carrier. Some promotions and downloads may be charged a premium - IN ALL CASES you will be notified of this charge in advance and will be asked to confirm that you accept this charge before you are actually billed. Check with your wireless carrier to get an overview of the different text messaging plans that they offer.

Q. I Tried To Participate And Nothing Happened.
If you try to participate at a peak time of day, it may take some time before you receive the response message. If you are in an area with poor service the response message may not be able to get to your mobile phone.

Q. How do I know If My Text Message Received?
If we received your text message, in most cases we will generate a response back to you immediately - but you should allow a few minutes to be sure. If you did not get a response, this could be because of...
- Connectivity and coverage issues in the send and/or receive process
- Your phone, carrier or carrier plan does not participate in 2-way text messaging across a 5 or 6 digit short code. (Note: Some carrier plans are person to person ONLY.)
- You sent it to the wrong number

Q. Can I Test My Phone For Text Messaging?
Yes. Text HELP to the advertised shortcode.

Q. I Have A Prepaid Subscription - Can I Participate?
You should discuss this with your wireless carrier.

Q. I Can Receive Text Messages From My Friends, But I Get Error Messages If I Try To Send A Message To You
Some carriers allow only person to person text messaging. Check with your wireless carrier to be sure.
